Game Day Field Preparation

Supplies and Equipment

  • Everything is stored in the shed at C Field, which we share with the Manoa Girls Athletic Club (MGAC) and Manoa Youth Baseball League (MYBL).
  • Bases, pegs, second home plates, scoreboards, chalk, scorebooks, and pencils are in the wooden storage locker in the shed.
  • You will need to know 2 lock combinations: 1 for the shed, 1 for the wooden storage box.

Set up

  1. Level and rake home plate area and baselines before chalking.
  2. Rake and groom pitchers mound area.
  3. Chalk foul lines, batter’s boxes, and “no return line” each week.
    • batter’s boxes should be 7′ deep
      • from the middle of the plate, the box should extend
        • 4′ to the front (toward pitcher’s mound)
        • 3′ to the back (toward catcher’s box)
    • “no return line” should be 15′ before home plate on the 3rd base line
  4. Refresh outfield painted lines as needed.
  5. Lay down and secure bases and second home plate.
    • lines are considered fair territory, bases should be aligned in fair territory
    • the orange part of the double 1st base bag should be entirely in foul territory
    • 35′: distance from back tip of home plate to the back, outside corner of 1st and 3rd bases
    • 49′ 6″: distance from back tip of home plate to middle of 2nd base
    • 8′: distance from 1st home plate to 2nd home plate – aligned with 1st base line
    • 30′ 6″: distance from back tip of home plate to front part of pitching rubber
  6. Drag dirt part of the infield.
  7. Set up scoreboards and chalk.
  8. Place scorebook and pencil in scorer’s booth on each field.
  9. Place two new balls (Field B and Field C) in scorer’s booth (for Field A, it will be 1 new ball and 1 recently used ball).

Game Balls

Field A should have one new ball and one used ball. B and C should have two new balls.

Breakdown

  1. Carefully and accurately record scores and give them to the Recording Secretary.
  2. Take bases, second home plate, pegs, scoreboards, chalk, scorebooks, and pencils back to shed.
  3. Lock the locker box.
  4. Lock the shed.
  5. Give all used balls to designated person to hold for future distribution.
  6. Give all used balls to designated person to hold for future distribution.

If we are running low on supplies (paint, field marking chalk, pencils, etc.) please report it to the Field Manager(s).
